 AS YOU ARRIVE

ACCESS

On arrival to the property you will see on the right an entrance gate to the rear garden, just behind the gate on the wall you will find the key in the  key-safe.    The  largest  of  the  keys  opens  the  front  door,  if the shutters to the door are closed the key for this turns in the opposite direction than you would usually turn; the final key opens the door to the terrace.

LOUNGE

THE WOOD BURNER
Please feel free to use the wood burner.  You will find firelighters and matches in one of the draws under the dining room table, the wood you will find outside, we recommend  you get the fire going smaller twigs them build it up from there…it is highly recommend to not over load with wood as this is less efficient and may cause chimney fires, also, no coloured paper/cardboard. If you use the fire each day please can you not empty the embers in a bin or outside, there is a silver bucket to the left of the fire, may we ask you to empty them into that and leave for 24 hrs until emptying them outside; we recommend this be emptied in the wheel barrow (then it will be emptied after your stay).  It is recommended by the manufacturer to not empty the removable tray (unless overloaded) but just the excess ash as this acts as insulation and will distribute more heat.  On the day of departure please DO NOT clean/empty the fire.

TV/DVD
There are a few buttons on the right side panel of the TV, press the top one and then with the controls (Torchwood) press 1, then press the red button on the Grundig controls for the satellite,  wait a few seconds, then  the  guide  through  for your  choice  of channels,  there  are also number of DVD’s.  We do of course hope you are enjoying yourselves so much outdoors that you won’t need any of these!!

BOOKS
There are a number of books, please feel free to read any, if you find you have started one and have not enough time to finish before you leave, please do let us know if you decided to take it home with you and we can deduct the cost from your deposit and then replace it for someone else.

Wi-Fi The access code for the wi-fi is: 53E4 F215 ED75 736C DCC1 C147 66

SOFA BED
You  will  find  under  the  sofa  bed  2 single  quilts  with  covers  and  2 pillows,  although  we often only have  2 guests  at a time, the single quilts are lighter than the one in the bedroom and if you feel you are too hot at night you may want to use these.

DINING AREA

We do hope all your dining will take place on the terrace or on the garden bench, however, there is the dining table that pulls out, there are also draws to this which houses the firelighters and a sewing kit. May we ask you when leaving to put the items back in the same place as the next guest will receive the same instructions as these; just to save hunting around!

KITCHEN

The oven and hob are gas, the hob lights with the ignition button, but you will need to light the pilot light with a match for the oven, there is a gas bottle next to the oven behind the curtain, if this runs out during your stay, there is a spare one under the sink.  The grill is electric and straight forward

The fridge has a small freezer compartment, sometimes when the door to the freezer is not closed tight the freezer overloads with ice, when you close this little door you should hear a click which indicates it is closed correctly.  On departure, may we ask you to kindly unplug the fridge first thing in the morning and leave it open when leaving.  In one of the cupboards there are some baking trays, if you come at a certain time of year there is rhubarb growing, please help yourselves and also wild strawberries.   Plates etc are in the cupboard in the lounge area below the books.

There are some recipe books, may we ask you to not take any of these home with you, as with the reading books they can’t all be replaced.

You will find also a picnic basket feel free to take out with you on your days out.

If we can ask you to use a bin liner in the bin at all times we would appreciate it, if loose rubbish is placed in the large bin, the refuge collector won’t take it, the refuge collection is on Tuesday’s, if you put the large black bin by the letter box near the road on Monday evening this will be collected Tuesday.

BEDROOM

If you have opted for bedding as an extra option, your bed will have been made up for you on arrival.  The light switch for the bedroom is just at the top of the stairs and can be turned off once in bed by the bed switch.  We recommend if you decide to pull back the screens in the bedroom (to watch TV in bed maybe) please do not lean on the balcony as support.

BATHROOM

Pretty straight forward, although, as the water is very hot, please be careful to check before walking into the shower.  There is a first aid kit in the bathroom cupboard together with spare light bulbs.

OUTSIDE

This is all pretty straight forward. Yes, the BBQ really is that great big chimney!!

Feel free to use the wood for the BBQ, you can of course buy charcoal but is can be expensive if you don’t buy it in the larger supermarkets. We were once asked by a guest if she could potter about in the garden (as this was her passion and a way for her to relax) there are a few hand tools in the white basket, do feel free to potter.

IN AN EMERGENCY

As mentioned, we live 2 hours from the property and may not always be able to get to you fast in a real emergency if needed, this is why we have our Gite Managers in the local area, their names are Richard and Caroline Williams and are part of ‘Les Bons Voisins’ Group (‘the good neighbours’).   Although Richard and Caroline are local to you we only like to disturb them when necessary, please do feel free to call us first as we may be able to help you over the phone, do of course though, if you can’t get us, call them. Our number is:

+33 (0) 6 22 44 16 33

and Richard & Caroline’s numbers are:

03 80 93 18 90 or 06 70 95 36 14.

FOOD SHOPPING

If you want fresh bread daily, there is a bread van that passes each morning,  it parks  just under  the bridge  and will honk it’s horn as it arrives (usually around 9am).  There is also a bread shop in Montigny sur Aube.   There are supermarkets:  if you turn right from the house and  keep  going  towards  Boudreville,  you  will  come  to  a  junction, turning left will take you to a supermarket (closed Mondays and lunchtimes) this is about 15 mins away and turning right to an number of supermarkets, this is a bit further but more choice, when you get to the traffic lights (pass through 2 villages first) turn right and the first one is Intermarche.

If you turn left from the house and left into a road called La Chaume you will find a small convenience store open 5pm – 7pm (a little expensive though)

ON DEPARTURE

Just a few points we ask you to check before your depart:

  • DO NOT clean out the Wood Burner or BBQ. Empty, wipe down and turn off the fridge.
  • Empty the kitchen bin into the outside bin (front of the house).
  • All glass bottles jars/bottles  must be removed  from the property;
there are numerous recycle bins around the area.
  • We average one hour interior preparation for each changeover, as these fees are expensive we ask you to leave the property how you found it as anything in excess of this will be deducted from you deposit.
  • Please remember to leave the key in the key safe and close the door firmly.

Last but not least, may we wish you a very safe and pleasant journey home and hope you enjoyed your stay in Cote d’Or
